Visit to Sacromonte Craft Wines - Saturday May 8th

Updated: Jun 8, 2021

Our experience last Saturday at Sacromonte Craft Wines is a difficult to explain in words.

We leaved early in the morning with a lot of desire to arrive, since this trip had been desired.

May gave us a day that we never imagined. Full sun, no wind, spring temperature, something unthinkable for this time of year.

The place already amazed us from its paths between the mountains that we crossed to arrive with a dazzling landscape.

Sacromonte is an invitation to contemplate, to be embraced by nature and to know the Uruguayan indigenous mountain in its purest state.

Located in the northern part of the Department of Maldonado (one hour from Punta del Este) and immersed in the Sierra de Carapé valley, Sacromonte is wine, vineyards, landscape, architecture and sustainability, all intertwined with one another.

We were received by Edmond Borit, owner and manager of this incredible place. From a French family but born and raised in Ica, Peru, Edmond inherited a passion for wine from his grandfather. He arrived with his family in Uruguay in 2014, leaving his job and determined to spend more time with his large family and fulfill the dream of continuing the family tradition that began in France more than a century ago.

Together with him, we toured the vineyard, its organic garden, panoramic viewpoint and chapel.

Later we had lunch with a view of the indigenous mountain, a picture that it was hard to believe that we were being part of it.

We delight ourselves with the house specialty: lamb and grilled meats, which we pair with its exquisite wines, ending with a delicious dessert and coffee.

At the end of the day, we walked through the ravine with the joy of having been able to enjoy an unforgettable day.

Infinite thanks to all who joined us and trusted us.

To our host Edmond and all the Sacromonte staff for taking care of all the detail of our visit and to Tavis Davidson for his commitment, dedication and the incredible photos that we are used to.

Total happiness!
